Cuando una parte de esa nube colapsa por su\u00a0propia gravedad, empieza a girar y se aplana formando un disco\u00a0protoplanetario alrededor de una estrella joven. En ese disco, diminutas part\u00edculas de polvo colisionan y se adhieren entre s\u00ed. Primero forman granos, luego rocas y,\u00a0con el tiempo, objetos cada vez m\u00e1s grandes llamados planetesimales, de kil\u00f3metros de di\u00e1metro.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A partir de ah\u00ed, la gravedad toma el control. Los planetesimales comienzan a atraerse y a fusionarse en un\u00a0proceso llamado acreci\u00f3n. As\u00ed se forman los\u00a0protoplanetas; los embriones de los planetas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>En las regiones cercanas a la estrella, donde las temperaturas son m\u00e1s elevadas, se forman planetas rocosos como la Tierra. M\u00e1s lejos,\u00a0donde las temperaturas son m\u00e1s bajas, los n\u00facleos pueden acumular grandes cantidades de gas dando lugar a gigantes como J\u00fapiter o Saturno.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pero este proceso no es ordenado. Hay colisiones violentas y migraciones orbitales. De hecho, se cree que la Luna se form\u00f3 tras un gran impacto entre la Tierra primitiva y otro\u00a0protoplaneta.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Con el tiempo, el sistema se estabiliza. El gas desaparece. Algunos cuerpos se convierten en planetas, otros en lunas,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ciencia.nasa.gov\/asteroides\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asteroides<\/a>\u00a0o cometas. Y lo m\u00e1s fascinante es que este\u00a0proceso no es \u00fanico.
