Pato O’Ward gana en Iowa y Palou completa el top 5

<p>Pato O’Ward arrasa en la Carrera 1 de Iowa de IndyCar y le arrebata la victoria a <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/josef-newgarden/36117/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Josef Newgarden</a></p>
<p>La estrategia en boxes y una decisión clave pusieron a O’Ward por delante de Newgarden, otorgándole a Arrow McLaren su primer triunfo de 2025.</p>
<p>Josef Newgarden fue claramente dominante y el <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/team/team-penske/271/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Team Penske</a> finalmente mostró todo su potencial este sábado en el óvalo de Iowa Speedway. Pero cuando más importaba, fue otro piloto y otro equipo los que se alzaron con su primera victoria del año.</p>
<p><a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/pato-oward/838160/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pato O&#8217;Ward</a> y Arrow McLaren le arrebataron el liderato a Newgarden con un overcut en la última tanda de paradas en boxes, y la estrella mexicana resistió una feroz presión en las vueltas finales para quedarse con el Sukup 275. Fue la octava victoria de O&#8217;Ward en su carrera en la IndyCar, en su largada número 100 en la serie, y la primera de un piloto Chevrolet en 2025, cortando la racha dominante de Honda.</p>
<p>&#8220;Esto es increíble&#8221;, dijo O&#8217;Ward. &#8220;Hemos estado esperando este momento todo el año. Es una locura. Mi carrera número 50 también fue una victoria aquí en Iowa, y esa era mi única otra victoria en este circuito, así que es una linda historia&#8221;.</p>
<p>&#8220;Gran trabajo de mi equipo Arrow McLaren, chicos y chicas. Este auto con motor Chevy estuvo (genial)… Estoy muy feliz de ser el piloto Chevy que les dio su primera victoria del año&#8221;.</p>
<p>Antes de la última ronda de paradas, parecía que la carrera era de Newgarden. El dos veces ganador de Indianápolis 500 había conseguido la pole y liderado 232 de las 275 vueltas del sábado. Pero cuando su equipo lo llamó a boxes en la vuelta 233, O&#8217;Ward y otros decidieron quedarse en pista.</p>
<p>Ingresaron dos vueltas después, y O&#8217;Ward salió delante de Newgarden. El piloto de Tennessee lo persiguió hasta la bandera a cuadros, en una parte final en la que dos banderas amarillas reagruparon al pelotón y provocaron relanzamientos. Pero el mexicano de 26 años aguantó la presión y logró una victoria brillante.</p>
<p>El resultado del sábado marcó el décimo 1-2 entre ambos pilotos, con Newgarden ganando siete veces y O&#8217;Ward ahora tres.</p>

<p>&#8220;Josef es el maestro en estas carreras&#8221;, dijo O&#8217;Ward. &#8220;Él domina este lugar. Así que sabía que teníamos que estar perfectos y que yo tenía que ser súper preciso en las vueltas previas a la parada para vencerlo en su propio juego&#8221;.</p>
<p>Newgarden quedó a solo 0.2352 segundos de O&#8217;Ward cuando cayó la bandera a cuadros. &#8220;O&#8217;Ward consiguió la posición en pista y ahí se terminó todo&#8221;, dijo. &#8220;Tan simple como eso&#8221;.</p>
<p>Detrás de O&#8217;Ward, todo fue del equipo Penske: <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/will-power/25961/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Will Power</a> completó el podio en tercer lugar y <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/scott-mclaughlin-2/39999/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Scott McLaughlin</a> remontó furiosamente desde el puesto 27 de salida hasta terminar cuarto. <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/alex-palou-2/42275/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alex Palou</a> cerró el top cinco y mantuvo cómodamente su ventaja en el campeonato.</p>
<p><a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/christian-rasmussen/947633/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Christian Rasmussen</a>, <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/conor-daly/34538/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Conor Daly</a>, <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/santino-ferrucci-2/41976/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Santino Ferrucci</a>, <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/marcus-armstrong/445582/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Marcus Armstrong</a> y <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/scott-dixon/21774/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Scott Dixon</a> completaron los diez primeros.</p>
<p>La carrera del sábado fue tan intensa como se esperaba, con el desafiante circuito de Iowa causando accidentes a varios pilotos que intentaban avanzar en un día en el que los sobrepasos fueron difíciles.</p>
<p>La primera bandera amarilla llegó apenas al inicio, cuando <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/colton-herta-2/41525/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Colton Herta</a> trompeó y cruzó por el césped interior. <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/jacob-abel/955773/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jacob Abel</a> se accidentó en la vuelta 75, <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/kyle-kirkwood/290721/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kyle Kirkwood</a> se fue contra el muro en la curva 2 en la vuelta 153, y tanto <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/nolan-siegel/952792/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nolan Siegel</a> como <a href="https://es.motorsport.com/driver/callum-ilott/108935/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Callum Ilott</a> sufrieron choques en el último tramo. Cinco de los 27 pilotos que largaron no lograron terminar, y solo 15 vieron la bandera a cuadros en la misma vuelta del líder.</p>
<p>De todos ellos, ninguno brilló más que O&#8217;Ward. Ahora volverá el domingo para intentar repetir la hazaña.</p>
<p>&#8220;Mañana tenemos otra oportunidad&#8221;, dijo O&#8217;Ward. &#8220;Estaría genial llevarnos las dos&#8221;.</p>
<p>El domingo, la IndyCar volverá a la acción en Iowa con la segunda carrear del fin de semana a las 12:00, hora local.</p>
